City Square Residences: Little India 🤙🇮🇳
We continue to search for an apartment, and our next option took us to the busy, high-density Little India neighbourhood in the heart of the city. The location had obvious advantages, but we were not sure that such a lively setting would suit us.
On the one hand, the incredible location in the center provides us with access to all the main conveniences of the city, which is quite attractive. On the other hand, the area is characterized by a rather bustling atmosphere, which may cause concern. The condominium we were considering is located next to a large shopping center and as many as three subway stations, adding a plus to the convenience bank.
The first thing that surprised me when visiting the residential complex was the turnstiles, or more accurately, the “gates” at the entrance, which open with a card or face recognition. This was something new for me, I had never seen such a thing anywhere before. Later I realized that this is probably necessary due to the enormous size of the complex: a whole 6 towers with 30 floors in each, a total of 910 apartments! Managing such a number of residents is a real challenge.
The second thing that struck me was the pleasant and even cosy atmosphere inside the condo despite the size of the development. The grounds are simple but tastefully designed. There is even a “function room” the size of a small cultural palace, with two halls for events, a gym, a billiard room and a rooftop terrace.
The apartment we viewed in 2023 was relatively large by Singapore standards — 113 m², with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Its asking rent at the time was S$6,900 per month; this is a historical viewing snapshot, not a current listing.
After weighing the pros and cons, we decided that a 910-unit development was not the kind of home we wanted. We were looking for somewhere quieter and smaller, so the search continued.
